Bacteria and viruses can live on inanimate surfaces (gloves, doorknobs,
tables, etc.) for a period of time and this is a means of transmission
from one person to another especially during the winter months. They will
not necessarily thrive and to get sick one one needs to injest an
infectious dose (enough to make one sick) which usually is not the case.
The most important preventive action we can all take is frequent
handwashing especially before eating or handling food.
