The majority of humans prefer to be free to fall in love, and live their lives without anyone telling them who they should mate with and how they should raise their children. Selective breeding of humans is called "eugenics" and it is generally frowned upon. Wile in theory there are many aspects of human existence that can be improved upon, such as not depleting resources we need for our survival, human societies have become rather complicated, and it is difficult for a scientist or group of scientists to convince all six billion people on earth to behave in the theoretically most ideal way.

While selective breeding of crops and domestic animals has proven that most species of plants and animals are quite easily manipulated, it has also proven that breeding for any one trait almost always comes at the expense of other traits. For one example, the longhorn cattle breeders association is quite concerned that breeding cattle for horn growth can be detrimental to other qualities such as flavorful meat. Corn with the best genes for producing large ears at the right height from the ground for easy harvesting, is not the most resistant to pests, or the most efficient at growing in drought conditions. Any discussion of the most ideal traits to select in humans rapidly devolves into what is politely known as a heated discussion.

Many humans tend to think of evolution as "survival of the fittest" with continual "improvement" toward some ultimate goal of perfection. But the real history of evolution is much more about elimination of the weakest and an increase in diversity over time. We don't have one "most fit" predator on earth today, we have thousands of species of predatory animals from raptors to felines (lions, tigers, pumas, leopards), canines (wolves, foxes, coyotes), ursines (polar bears, grizzlies), sharks and sea lions. Within the raptors there is not one "most fit" eagle or hawk but a large variety of different species that coexist in most habitats. It thus seems very likely that humans should celebrate diversity, and rejoice in the many different types of people that are each very good at living different types of lifestyles.

It is a proven fact that 90% of humans believe they belong in the top 10% of superior specimens of the human race. Many males of the human species (and other mammals too) like the idea of spending just enough time with a female to mate, before moving on to the next, but many females frown on this behavior and prefer to have a partner who is interested in raising children into adulthood. Humans have now evolved to the point where knowledge and character passed on to children in the process known as growing up, are more important than the genetic traits of the parents.
