Hi,
This sounds like Venus to me. It's pretty high in the SE sky just before dawn right now. If it had been HST, you probably would have been able to see it move, since the Space Telescope's orbit takes it once around the Earth in about 90 minutes or thereabouts.
There's a decent planetarium programme called Home Planet which is available for free from http://www.fourmilab.ch. I find it very handy for looking up the positions of planets and visibility of objects.
