The clinical pathology residents at the Brigham
have developed a growing collection of teaching files for flow cytometry.
We recently began digitizing the materials
and serving them in house on a webserver.
This system, as opposed to the
Visible Human site, uses javascripts
to run the image/annotation interface.
Javascript has an advantage over CGI in that it runs locally on
the user's machine. Unfortunately Javascript lacks the
graphical tools found in Perl (or Java). Furthermore, most
people don't want to take the time to learn and write
javascripts. To help simplify the process
I created a collection of perl tools that generate
images from a starting image and imagemap, and also write the
javascript. Some fruits of the process are shown below.
