My question relates to the warming water temperature in
lakes in the Spring. I've heard two opposing theories.
The first is that muddy water (due to rain runoff) heats
the fastest because the particulates suspended in the water
transfer solar radiation to one another. The other theory
is that clear water heats the fastest because it allows
penetration of the solar radiation. Would you please explain
the process involved in the heating of lake water and the
retention of that heat in the water.
Thank you,
David Rice
