I have been told that water towers are used to keep water pressure in
the pipelines so faucets will "run." But considering the energy
needed to raise the water to the height of a water tower, isn't the
use of gravity for this purpose negated? Why not use pumps to
maintain the water pressure rather than to raise the water to an
artificial height?
