Different types of algae reproduce at different rates. I'll give you two examples. Green algae undergoes sexual reproduction approximately every 24 hours. Overnight, this algae develops clusters. Twenty-four hours later these clusters burst releasing gametes. After reproducing, the algae dies and is washed ashore. Alga Fucus vesicululosous reproduce sexually, as well. However, this form of algae reproduces only when the surrounding water is calm.
