A student is doing a project growing plants in 3 different atmospheres
1. ordinary air (but in a terrarium type environment)
2. carbon dioxide enriched (in a terrarium type environment) It is
entended to use bicarbonate and citric acid to generate the carbon dioxide.
3. carbon dioxide depleted (in a terrarium type environment) Soda
Lime is intended to be used to cause this.
Question how can she easily show the three atmospheres have different
amounts of carbon dioxide.
I know bromothymol blue will show the enriched environment, but it
will no show a difference between ordinary air and the depleted
atmosphere. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
