I read 'The Earth and its Mountains' (by Littleton?) which cited ancient
eclipse evidence for shrinkage--the missing contribution to the slower-
than-expected slowing of the Earth by lunar & solar tidal friction. This
sounds significant; what's the current thinking? N.B. Personal interest
