Searching www.google.com
   for the exact phrases
      "history of C"
      "history of the C language" and
      "history of the C programming language"
yielded several hits.

The one which caught my attention was

Of course, the most authoritative comments on the language's history
come from its originators, Brian Kernigan & Dennis Ritchie, and
is included in the foreword of their original defining text,
"The C Programming Language"
