Thanks for your question Bob, and I am sorry that it has taken so long to respond.

In short, the answer is fats. Fats contain about 9 nutritional Calories (or kilocalories) per gram. Carbohydrates (which include glucose) contain about 4 Calories per gram. When this energy is released or used in a biochemical reaction, the products are water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2), and these products necessarily have lower energy than the carbohydates and fats in question.
