I don't know how to draw in this space so will attempt to explain.
The single fixed pulley is attached to a surface (ceiling, etc).  The platform is attached to 
one end of a rope which extends up and over the single fixed pulley.  The person 
standing on the platform reaches up and grabs the end of the rope that has been 
extended over the pulley, attempting to pull the platform and himself up while standing 
on the platform.  In the other example, the rope is firmly attached to a surface, runs down 
and through a pulley which is itself attached to the platform.  The person, standing on the 
platform pulls up on the loose end of the rope attempting to hoist himself and the platform 
up.  The pulley will move up with the platform.  Hope this helps. There are no other 
pulleys in either case except the one mentioned.
