I don't know how to draw in this space so will attempt to explain. The single fixed pulley is attached to a surface (ceiling, etc). The platform is attached to one end of a rope which extends up and over the single fixed pulley. The person standing on the platform reaches up and grabs the end of the rope that has been extended over the pulley, attempting to pull the platform and himself up while standing on the platform. In the other example, the rope is firmly attached to a surface, runs down and through a pulley which is itself attached to the platform. The person, standing on the platform pulls up on the loose end of the rope attempting to hoist himself and the platform up. The pulley will move up with the platform. Hope this helps. There are no other pulleys in either case except the one mentioned.
