Hello Maychild, According to “A Dictionary of Genetics” 6th edition, by Robert C. King and William D. Stansfield, (Oxford University Press), Insertion Sequences (IS) and Transposons (Tn) are both flanked by inverted repeats, but transposons are further flanked by direct repeat sequences. Both IS and Tn carry the genetic information necessary for transposition, but transposons frequently carry other genes as well. Alex Brands Lehigh University
