Please help us. My son Troy is doing a project for school. His teacher insists that watermelon's are vegetables, however the dictionary and encyclopedia claim they are fruits by definition. All the resources that claim they are vegetables give no references or data to back this claim. They simply state the watermelon is "the fruit that is really a vegetable." Can you please help us to understand why watermelons are marketed as vegetables when they are scientifically classified as a fruit? And where does this myth come from that they are indeed vegetables? Resources where we can find this information for ourselves are most welcome. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Dr. Hazen
