Wavelength and amplitude are not related. I think your confusion is coming
from equating wavelength with the distance a particle would travel along
the wave. The wavelength is actually the distance between peaks (or
troughs, if you prefer) of the wave. I've never heard anyone use the circle
analogy, but it doesn't strike me as being particularly helpful. Perhaps
there's another phenomenon or concept it is useful for describing that I'm
not aware of though, I'm really not sure. If you think of a sine wave, the
amplitude is the height of the peaks, the wavelength is the distance
between the peaks, and the two are not necessarily related. I hope this helps.
