Dear Sir/Madam, Good day to you. I would like to know if yeast do respire and give out out carbon dioxide when it is placed in a beaker of plain water without any sugar in it. I have searched many websites but they mention that yeast only respire and give out carbon dioxide when it is placed in sugar solution. I thought that so long as the yeast is alive, it should be able to respire and give out carbon dioxide even if it is placed in plain water because living things respire all the time. What is actually happening???
