The projectile from a Koosh Vortex Tornado toy gun is essentially a large spinning rubber band. (It spins around the axis that runs through the center of the band's circle, perpendicular to the circle's plane.) This ring flies in a straight (horizontal) trajectory, along the axis of spin, with no dip for at least 30 or 40 feet. How does it do this? What aerodynamic surfaces could give it lift to counteract the gravity, because the ring is totally symmetrical around its spin axis, so there would seem to be no net lift.
