Diamonds in their natural state look quite similar to many crystaline 
rocks an minerals.  It is not out of the question that a dimaond would be 
found in that area.  Weathering and erosion processes move materials 
thousands of miles in some cases.  The materials in that area could be 
from various areas, carried from Canada by glaciation, or from other areas 
by water.  Any jeweler should be able to assess immediately whether or not 
it is a diamond.  (just don't leave the sample with the jeweler)
