There are some answers in our archives that discuss the general question of pressure on eggs (use our search engine and search on "egg pressure" with "answers" checked and in the area of physics) but none of them actually give a number for the pressure!! So I got curious and searched the Web. At the Georgia Egg Commission there is a page of trivia which states that "In order to break a raw shell egg, it requires 9 pounds of pressure on the long axis, but only about 3 pounds of pressure from side to side." The problem I have with this answer, by the way, is that it is NOT a science site, so the numbers may be off a bit. Also, the "pressure" is stated to be 9 or 3 pounds, but the units of pressure are "pounds per square inch". However, with the information you find in our archived answers and the "pressure" given above, perhaps you have enough information to proceed!
