Casparian strips were named after a German Botanist named Robert Caspary who identified them in the mid-1800s. It's one of those examples of becoming immortal by discovering something and then having your name attached to it forever.

From The Morphology and Anatomy of Plants

Between the vascular tissues and the cortex is a single layer of cells known as the endodermis. In these cells, a portion of the radial walls, both longitudinal and transverse, contains lignin and suberin (waterproofing substances). This band around the wall is called the Casparian strip.
