Fish do have a quiescent period which can be called 'sleep'. Tropical freshwater
fish in home aquaria can be observed resting immediately after turning the
lights on in a room which has been darkened for several hours.
Because of the nature of their eye (lacking an eyelid),
they do not 'close' their eyes when they are sleeping.
