If I stand on the beach and look out towards
the horizon, what is the maximum distance I
am looking at? Why is the optical horizon
greater than the geometric horizon? Is the
optical horizon approximately 12 km [as past
bushwalking experience suggests] and does
this vary over water compared to land?
