Since I live in Arizona, the "state next door" to California, I found your question particularly interesting.

The story about California someday falling into the ocean is frequently told - in fact, it shows up as a Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) at this U.S Government wehsite.

Here is their FAQ and answer:

Will California eventually fall into the ocean?

No. The motion of plates will not make California sink--California is moving horizontally along the San Andreas fault and up around the Transverse Ranges.

So, our friends in California need not worry too much about his eventuality, and our friends in Arizona who bought "Future Beachfront Property" in Yuma, Arizona now just have a big bunch of sand on their hands.
