Subject: How do memory flash cards store their information?

Flash memory cards are used to store pictures in today's digital cameras.  They 
do not seem to need electricity to hold the information nor are they optical 
devices like a CD-ROM.  With no moving parts they retain the information 
indefinately.  How is this done?  My guess is that somehow a magnetic field is 
involved but with no movement (such as in a hard drive) how can the information 
be created and stored?
