Flash memory cards are used to store pictures in today's digital cameras. They do not seem to need electricity to hold the information nor are they optical devices like a CD-ROM. With no moving parts they retain the information indefinately. How is this done? My guess is that somehow a magnetic field is involved but with no movement (such as in a hard drive) how can the information be created and stored?
