For a Boy Scout project we are trying to build a launcher. It has to look 
like a cannon and be built out of 4 inch PVC pipe 48 -72 inches long.  It 
has to be able to launch a tennis ball 20-50 feet using no propellants 
(hairspray,black powder, lighter fluid, etc).  There are no other 
restrictions.  We have tried using screen door springs attached  to a PVC 
connector and shootingt it like a slingshot through the pipe.  It will only 
go a few feet. We already have the cannon built but need ideas for the 
launching mechanism. Thank you
