I have used ammonia as a furniture stripper. It works great but is
very runny. I would like to combine it with cornstarch. I am afraid
it will either become gaseous or toxic. I would also like to
ask just how toxic ammonia is alone. Once it is used as a stripper,
the ammonia or the ammonia/cornstarch mix, does the chemical composition
become toxic when introduced to the poly urethane/acrylic/laquer
finish etc.. .
I do not assume that the ammonia alone once used as a stripper does not
become toxic as a mix, simply because of the addition of the surface
being removed.
I am very curious though. Once the urethane (etc.)is dried and then
removed by ammonia. Just how much toxicity is reintroduced or is
recreated? Or maybe, does it become worse in this form? Or is it
possibly inert?
Thats it! Thanks alot for your help. I have been looking for these
answers for awhile.
Have a great day!
