Sylvia,Thank you for your question pertaining to fish anatomy and structure. To begin with, there are over 25,000 species of fish living in our waters. All these fish have a different anatomical structure pertaining to their survival which results in a wide range of bone numbers. For instance, sharks and stingrays which are fish, have an anotomical make-up consisting of ONLY cartilage. Cartilage is a connective tissue that is flexible (Dictionary of Biology, 1990).
