The closest I could come up with is Charles Macintosh,a Scottish chemist,
who is best known for his invention in 1823 of a method for making
waterproof garments by using rubber dissolved in coal-tar naphtha for
cementing two pieces of cloth together. The mackintosh garment was named
for him.
