What I'm really trying to ask is why is the nobel-gas inner core
abbreviation for the element Yb [Xe]6s2 4f14 and not [Xe]6s2 4f13? I was
under the impression that only the inner- transitions were in the f
orbitals, yet the only way to reach the correct configuration (that I
can see)for Yb is if La is also has f orbitals!?
                                         Please help-
                                              Terribly Confused
