You are correct.  The solid air freshener is undergoing a physical change 
(at least in the solid air fresheners I know about).  Specifically, the 
odiferous molecules are vaporizing from solid state and freshening up that 
stinky old room.  This is why some air fresheners (Plug-Ins) require heat 
to work more effectively.  The electricity heats the scented insert, 
releasing the molecule.
