The South Atlantic anomaly is an irregularity of the geomagnetic field near the brazilian coast. According to the theory, particles from outer space interact more profoundly at that region and contribute to create “low altitude” aurorae. The book “Majestic Lights”, written by Robert H. Eather, brings the information that approximately 0,01% of the Rio de Janeiro’s nights has an aurora australis ( once in 27 years and some months ). However, I have no information about such occurences taking place there. I am aware of the problem of light pollution, but what I want to know is if there is ( or was ) some kind of researches on that area and what the results are. Thanks for your attention
