This question had to do with the application of Hess's Law of Heat 
Summation. It is not possible to calculate the enthalpy of formation of 
carbon monoxide directly - why? I have been reading and looking up various 
sources of information but I cannot find the answer.  Would you please be 
able to help me?  THankyou.
