At work, we recently began using dry ice in packaging poultry products, so, just for fun, I assembled a device from a pressure control regulator valve and a pressure gauge. Using empty 2-liter PET plastic soft drink bottles I've been experimenting with making carbonated drinks by dropping dry ice pellets in the PET bottle filled with ice cold liquid, and then attaching my device to the bottle to force carbonation into the fluid. I have emailed my query to several soft drink companies and also to manufacturers and distributors of PET plastic bottles, and also to a couple of plastic engineering firms. I've not received any replies from any of my queries to date. Could you tell me at what PSI the common two liter PET bottle used for carbonated soft drinks would explode.? [ Before I built my pressure regulator device, I blew up a couple of PET bottles by dropping a dry ice pellet into it and then screwing down the bottle cap ] Do you happen to know what the average finished PSI is in common 2 liter PET soft drink bottles purchased from any grocery? Thanks, Lesa Motz, Motz Poultry Company, Batavia, Ohio
