Dear Drew,

Mice and rats are very trainable animals. Many people have mice and rats
as personal pets and can train them to do tricks like you train a dog. I
have personally seen a rat been trained to "fetch" a small squeaky toy for
a piece of cheese. I am sure before the movie was filmed there was an
animal trainer who taught Mr. Jangles to push the spool. Everytime the
mouse performed a trick properly he probably received a treat or some type
of reward.

Have fun with science,
Elsa
