I have seen many documentary movies that show chimpanzees putting a twig into an ant nest. The ants climb on it and the chimpanzees then pull the twig and lick the ants. Since chimpanzees are biologically close to humans, one might ask if humans can do the same. Yet, in the area where I live, ants roam freely and I have not seen any animal that dares even to smell them. (I smelled one and it felt like a hot knife stuck in my nose. Not to talk about the taste.)Since no animal dares to eat them, I assume they are highly toxic. Are chimpanzees better suited than humans for the task? Which types are edible to humans, and which types have to be avoided even by the ant-eater?
