I have looked in the encyclopedia, at the library (ours if very small), and searched the web. I can not find an answer for this. Most of the information I've found centers around their depleting numbers due to over fishing. I did find one reference that told me how many eggs a female can lay in one year, but it did not say whether she stays to protect the eggs, or leaves them to fend for themselves.
