A friend recently told me he and his Army buddies used to bury hot beer (during the Vietnam war) a few inches underground and then sperad jet fuel over the area and ignite it. He claimed that after a brief period, the jet fuel extingushed itself (probably all fuel being consumed) and when the beer was immediately excavated, it was remarkably cooler. I understand heat transfer, vaporization heat exchange etc. It sounds almost like it could actually work. Does it? If so, what could be the approximate temperature drop? Thanks, I love this site!
