Depends on the glass.

Fused quartz is a covalent compound, with each silicon atom covalently bonded to 
four other silicon atoms via one oxygen atom per bond (e.g. Si-O-Si links). But 
other glasses have ionic compounds like sodium carbonate mixed in to lower their 
melting points or otherwise improve their properties.
