I've been researching antacids and I have found a lot of websites saying that antacids produce an increase in acid production. This makes sense because of the way that equilibrium works, but I haven't found the acid "rebound" in any credible medical literature. Also, if it does increase acid production, why wouldn't the aftermath of antacids be painful. If the antacid is completely dissolved and the stomach creates enough acid to bring the pH back up, wouldn't the pH be high after the antacid is completely dissolved and leaves the system?
