I can see no reason for any differences in the two methods you describe. Both involve boiling water and using a coffee filter.

Some key variables that will influence coffee flavor are:

(1) quality and age of the coffee
(2) size of the grind, smaller grind = stronger coffee
(3) use of paper filter: the paper will trap flavor and other molecules
(3) the longer the water contacts the grounds the stronger the coffee.
