Hello Stephanie! A lot of animals don't have eyelids. Insects, for one
are a large group of animals that don't have eyelids. Fish don't have
eyelids and a lot of lizards don't have eyelids. To clean their eyes,
some lizards lick them with their tongue! Weird!
Thanks for your question.

Admin Note: Vertebrates such as fish, amphibians and reptiles lack eyelids like our - outer surface continuous with our skin, inner surface lined with a conjunctival membrane that is continuous with the conjunctiva of the eyeball. They do however, have something called a nicotating membrane. This membrane is clear and can be pulled over the eye, like an eyelid, to offer further protection.
