I checked several web-sites about fireflies (we call them lightning bugs
in NJ) and found some interesting information about their diet. The baby
fireflies are called larvae and eat worms, snails, and slugs. The larvae
live in the ground and look like grubs. The asian firefly lives in the
water and only eats snails. The diet of the mature adult fireflies is
somewhat of a mystery. The adult fireflies are sometimes predatory (they
use their glow to attract other types of fireflies and then eat them) and
also drink nectar. You can find some more information about fireflies at
the following websites:

ifas.ufl.edu/~eny3005/lab1/coleoptera/lampyrid.htm

state.edu/projects/FFiles/frfact.html

 Some fun facts about fireflies:

Did you know that the state insect of Pa. is the firefly ?
Did you know that you won't see fireflies west of the state of Kansas ?
Did you know that you can set up your backyard to attract fireflies ?

See if you can find more fun facts about fireflies and what you can do to
attract them (hint: the websites listed above could help you !!)
