I want to become a boxing cutman. A boxing cutman deals with
facial swelling and cuts. I will have to know how to stop the bleeding
from cuts. If there is a cut above the boxer's eye and the cutman
cannot stop the bleeding the fight could be stopped if the referee
rules that the bleeding from the cut affects the boxers sight. I heard
that there are homostatic (sp?) products that stop bleeding. I would
like to know the best product used to stop bleeding. As for swelling
right now cutmen use a piece of metal with a handle that is kept cold
before the fight and they hold it on the swollen area. Usually around
the eyes. The fight could also be stopped if the boxer's eye is
swollen shut. Is there any better way I could reduce swelling?
I would also have to look out for any serious injuries such as
broken limbs and blood clots. Sometimes fighters break their hands
during a fight and they still continue fighting. Is there any major
risks with that? How do I tell if something is broken in the first
place? Blood clots in the brain have caused atleast one death in the
ring. What are the hints to tell me that my fighter has a blod clot in
the brain and elsewhere for that matter?
If you could recommend a book on detecting blood cuts and dealing
with broken bones that would be greatly appreciated. But the questions
on homostatic (sp?) agents and swelling I couldn't find the anwser
anywhere. I asked cutmen to recommend any books on being a cutman and
they couldn't. Ringside catalog doesn't sell any cutman books either.
Thank you for you help. :o)
