Hi J.D.

Sunburn is not just a human ailment

There are actually many mammals that can suffer from sunburn. All the pachyderms, such as the elephant and the rhinocerous, can suffer even though they have very thick skins. They avoid it by rolling in dust or wallowing in muddy water. They may also rest under the shade of a tree in the heat of the day. Hippopotami rest in muddy water all day long and graze at night.

Stranded whales and dolphins have to be covered up, shaded or massaged with strong sun creme to prevent them from burning

Any animal which has an area of skin exposed or covered with light layer of hair is susceptible. This includes the noses of pigs and dogs and the ears of some cats.

I hope this fully answers your question!
