I am asking this question as I am doing my chemistry A-level coursework. I
am looking at what's in aspartame. This includes investigating the best
conditions needed for the hydrolysis of the peptide bonds, by changing the
concentration of acid and reflux time. Once the aspartame has been
hydrolysed I have preformed paper chromatography to look at what is
present in the solvent by comparing it with aspartic acid and
phenylalanine. I would also like to find the concentration of solvent
present. So I was thinking of preforming a titration but I did not know
with what as I will try one thing and it will react with one of the other
prodcuts. (methanol, aspartic acid or phenylalanine) I thought that the
best product that would be able to give me a concentration would be
methanol as it would be hard to find something that would not react with
both the amino acids present? I would be very grateful if you could help
me as soon as possible as both my teacher and I have been trying to think
of a way to find the concentration for quite a while.( I am doing the
Salters A-level course(MOD 5B,Syllabus 5688 OCR) and my experiment is
based on the subject topic engineering proteins experiment EP2.2 )
