Hello, I am using a membrane, made up of Aluminum Oxide, and a certain solute, a weak acid, which will be in full contact with the membrane. I already tried it, and it seems that some of the solute either reacted with the membrane (over a period of a few days), or it may have just been absorbed into the membrane. Can't see any visible damage to the membrane, but a Chemist should be able to just tell me if Al2O3 is likely to react with a weak acid... The acid I am using is Poly(styrene sulfonic acid), MW 75,000, and can be found at Alpha Aesar, item # 42653. I would appreciate any response, thanks for your time, sincerely, John jtulpan@hotmail.com
