Dear User,

Firstly, basic inorganic chemistry tells us that Al2O3 is NOT very reactive
towards acids (it is however reactive towards bases).
Secondly, your polystyrene - sulfonic acid is not a weak acid, it is an
immobilized strong acid, in its pI it is probably comparable to mineral
acids.
What is most likely happening is that either your solute is getting
absorbed onto the membrane (I am not entirely sure what kind of process is
used to make these btu I suspect that it involves fusing of fine powder of
Al2O3) or that ti reacts with something other than Al2O3 (is the membrane
pure aluminum oxide or does it contain other oxides?)

Without a more accurate description of your experiment, I cannot help you
further.

Sincerely,

A.G.E.
